Qatar Green Building Council (QGBC) continued its national campaign to build a sustainable society with the fifth edition of Qatar Sustainability Week (QSW). The week-long National Campaign took place from October 31 – November 7, 2020
QSW is a unique platform for promoting the nation’s sustainability vision and engaging relevant stakeholders under an overarching umbrella to achieve Qatar’s sustainable development goals. The event plays a crucial role in raising awareness of the importance of preserving the environment and implementing sustainable business practices. This initiative plays a crucial role in raising awareness among the wider community, while showcasing the progress Qatar has made in the areas of sustainability and green buildings
As a part of this movement, Indian Meetup Friends (IMF) community group based in Qatar, for the very first time participated in a wide range of sustainability oriented activities raising awareness amongst its community to promote the nations’ s sustainability vision. The range of activities included the following during the week were:
- Workshop on Wealth out of waste was conducted by renowned Eco-Artist, Art Therapist –Ms Hrithika Bhagat on Nov 4th 2020 through online zoom meeting. The workshop focused on recycling initiative that works towards spreading awareness about recycling the used bottles and newspapers by creating different arts and decorative piece, and also encouraging people to segregate and dispose waste responsibly.
- The second event was online photography awareness – Environmental Awareness Photography scheduled from Nov 3rd to Nov 7th ,2020. The initiative included collection of Photos contributed by each member of community showing contribution by them to save the environment around them.
- The last event was a Quiz Night on environment and sustainability week held at one location based in Barwa city. The quiz had 30 questions on various topics related to global warming and environment sustainability. Members participating enjoyed it with great learnings and as part of participation, each member were gifted a plant as a token of appreciation.
As Qatar Sustainability Week aims to stress the importance of making such a commitment by engaging the public and business communities in various sustainability-oriented activities and featuring innovations and initiatives that promote sustainability. We as IMF community aimed to engage the community further and reinforce the important message on national campaign for shared responsibility in communicating and taking steps to implementing sustainable practices with the ‘QSW 2020 Pledge’.
