Biography

His Excellency Jassim bin Saif Al Sulaiti was appointed Minister of Transport and Communications in January 2016 after the two ministries were merged. He was appointed Minister of Transport in 2013.

Career

His Excellency the Minister of Transport and Communications started his career in the Qatar Armed Forces serving as Brigadier General and Commander of the Maintenance Arms.

During his time in the Qatar Armed Forces, His Excellency also served as Chairman of the Engineers Qualifying Committee and Chairman of the Industrialisation Committee.

His Excellency the Minister of Transport and Communications is also Chairman of the Qatar Ports Management Company (Mwani), Chairman of Hamad Port Steering Committee, Deputy Chairman of the Steering Committee of the establishment of Qatar Railway Network (Qatar Rail), Head of the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) International Union of Public Transport and Chairman of the Qatari-French Supreme Committee.

Education

His Excellency the Minister of Transport and Communications has a BSc in Mechanical Engineering and a Master’s in Military Science from France.

Responsibilities

His Excellency the Minister of Transport and Communications has overall responsibility for all Ministry of Transport and Communications issues including:

  • Regulating land, maritime and air transport in Qatar
  • Developing and improving mobility and transport services, and studying their relevant projects and supervising their implementation
  • Overseeing and developing the information and communications technology sector to make it more vibrant and advanced
