Every year, countless electronic devices become obsolete and cause massive amounts of electronic waste. Safe disposal of discarded equipment is a growing challenge for consumers as well as governing bodies. The Environment Department at HS&E are continuously encouraging our community to choose a sustainable lifestyle and will be hosting the third annual E-waste recycling drive starting 3rd October 2021.

This  is a list of acceptable and non-acceptable devices for the E-waste drive:

The drive will take place through designated collection bins at Multaqa, Texas A and M and Lulu Express (Housing Lot . E-waste bins at these locations will be available for a period of three months starting first week of October until December 2021.

Msheireb Downtown Doha – Exhibition

Barahat Msheireb
4.30 PM – 7.30 PMMDD is hosting a weeklong B2C sustainability themed activation in Barahat Msheireb. Key entities such as Shell, Seashore Group, Supreme Committee, Msheireb Properties, Beehive, Doha Debates, Qatar Foundation, Qatar Green Building Council & Hungarian Council will be participating. Activations and education for the public will include physical educational booths by key partners and sustainability talks and panel discussions and workshops.

Al Zubarah UNESCO World Heritage Site Beach Cleanup

Friday 22 October – 5.30 PM

We are going to the beautiful beach at the Al Zubarah archeological site for an awesome beach cleanup. This event is kid and family friendly. For additional details and to register contact @deapqatar on their social media pages or by email at deapqatar@gmail.com . Due to covid registration is mandatory. We have limited spaces available.

Peterson Qatar to Announce the ‘’Zero Plastic Week” Competition

Peterson Office in Qatar is launching the “Zero Plastic Waste” and we invite YOU to join and compete with us!
How does it work? From the 23rd to the 30th of October you should try to avoid using and/or buying any kind of plastic to effectively produce Zero Plastic Waste. If you have no other option and do use plastic please separate this and store all the plastic that you have generated during the week. At the end of the period you will weigh your plastic waste (in grams) and record the final value. The person with the least plastic waste generated wins. It’s as simple as that and anyone can participate!

Plastic Water Bottles Caps: 
Our planet is drowning in plastic pollution—it’s time for change! Through the history of plastic, plastic bottle went from miracle container to hated garbage.
Recent years have seen an increase in awareness regarding the negative impact plastic water bottles have on the environment. Unfortunately, while most people know that plastic water bottles are bad for the environment, this awareness has not resulted in a significant drop in the use of disposable water bottles. In fact, their use is still on the increase with Americans using an average of 50 billion plastic water bottles a year; and while recycling is more accessible than ever, 90% of plastic water bottles are not recycled after use, meaning that billions of plastic bottles are entering our landfills, and even our oceans, every year.Recycling Art: 
I’s time for change, recycled art is creative work that’s made from discarded materials that once had another purpose. This includes anything from plastic caps and vehicle tires to scraps of cloth and building supplies.
Competition:
Artists who make recycled art take recyclable materials and make them into something new and meaningful. It is time to become more creative during Qatar Sustainability Week, we will form teams (complete the registration form) and compete to create art buildings/towers using recycled plastic bottles caps.
Plastic Bottles Caps Building Competition Details:
• • _Date: Saturday 30th October 2021
• • _Timing: 03:00 PM till 07:00 PM
• • _Location: Barahat Msheireb – Next to Mandarin Oriental Hotel – Msheireb City
• • _Teams: 5 individuals per team (fill the registration form)
• • _Given Material & Equipment: 1,000 plastic caps of different shape, color or size (mainly plastic bottles caps). 1 glue gun, 5 wooden skewers and 1 screw driver & 1 roll of twine jute wire.

  3. Lastly, we want to empower our students to be change-makers and learn life-long leadership skills to cultivate engaged and responsible global citizens.

Seashore Recycling & Sustainability Centre is a company looking to minimize pollution and waste in Qatar. All Carrefour stores in Qatar on October 26 , 2021 will stop plastic bags and only provide biodegradable paper bags or recyclabel bags to their customers. Through this event they aim to save usage of 100,000 plastics bags

Nature Tour: Mangrove ecology, wildlife tracking, and conservation action

30 October 
Al Mafjar Mangrove forest

Join us in this nature tour in the Al Mafjar mangrove forest, co-organized with QNHG and led by ecologist Dr. Aspa D. Chatziefthimiou and naturalist Raviv Cohen. We will explore the ecology of the area and we will track for wildlife. We will showcase and implement conservation actions in the mangroves, and have plenty of time for lunch, splashing around and birding.

The event is OPEN to the public and FREE.
The Cap to participant numbers is 30, with a waitlist of 10. Golden-framed Ehteraz and mask wearing during the tour are MANDATORY.
