As I always say there are no shortcuts or quick fixes in your weight loss journey. The word “detox” is seldom used to sell products or diet plans as it has that quick fix connotation: “Drink / eat this product and magically lose weight!

The harsh truth is, there are no quick fixes or shortcuts at all when it comes to a healthy lifestyle, or even reducing that daily extra calorie due to binge eating. There’s also no need for detox products because it is a well-known fact that kidney, liver, and intestines are perfectly capable of detoxing our bodies by themselves (just drink loads of water).

There are plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables that helps the detox process and with combination of both the results are excellent. High fiber food, food that lowers inflammation, and food that is low in sugar are all fantastic for a natural detoxification process.

Avoiding certain food definitely helps our bodies detox more efficiently and yield faster results. Highly processed food, very salty food, carbonated drinks and ready to eat meals should be taken in small quantities or should be avoided all together if possible. I am strictly against these food items and never add them to my grocery. Never!!

The idea of detoxing might leave a bad taste in our mouth. But it’s time to try one of these DIY shakes and prove that it doesn’t always have to taste bad. I have started preparing these DIY smoothies to change my taste buds and to add something nutritious to my body at the same time. I have mentioned earlier in previous blogs that I am a person who loves to explore by making healthy stuffs in my kitchen with readily available ingredients. The experience of making my own smoothies is so satisfying that I thought of sharing it with all of you. Trust me, I don’t add an ingredient if I don’t like the taste even if has detoxifying properties, because I know I won’t drink it at the end.

So guys, pull up your socks and in case you feel your digestion has gone for a toss, or maybe that favorite pants/jeans have become a little tight recently, or if you really just want to start fresh with your diet, consider these DIY recipes – just what you need to kick start your morning perfectly and by adding a little extra love to your body’s natural detoxification process.

Please note that I have curated the names of the smoothies:

Berry Garden –

Berries are my best friend when it comes to detoxing because they are rich in antioxidants and fibers. They’re just the right thing which I feel our body needs to replenish itself and helps to purge toxins. I prepared a smoothie from blueberries, raspberries and blackberries and it is undoubtedly a detox winner. Antioxidants have high anti-inflammatory properties. In this smoothie you’re getting loads of them, plus some healthy fat from the coconut milk we well.

Recipe:

  • 1/2 Berry Mix (Blueberries, Raspberries, Blackberries)
  • 1/2 cup Coconut Milk
  • 1 cup normal water

Spiced punch

Ginger is a great superfood which helps in detoxing. As far as the flavor is concerned, ginger definitely titillates my taste buds and provides a kick which is quite refreshing in the morning. I usually combine it with cinnamon which has additional anti – inflammatory benefits and adds up to the spiciness of this smoothie. Not as hot as pepper, but a spice that will be felt nonetheless. This drink has tremendous cleansing power for your digestive system which helps to ease bloating, and breaks up congestion throughout the body and undoubtedly makes it the best detox drink.

Recipe:

  • 1 small cube of ginger
  • 1 tsp Cinnamon
  • 1 handful Spinach
  • 1 cup Water

Instructions: Mince the ginger properly before adding it in so that there are less bits to crunch on once it’s all blended up.
